Situational Twists Of Poker Variants
When you do not know the many number of poker variants in existence you are probably playing half sighted and with half knowledge.  Even if you are not going to play all the poker variants you will have to know what they are.  This is because all are not strong in every kind of poker variants in existence.  Even the most dull poker player will have an interest in one form of poker where they can really perform.  If you cannot perform in holdem perhaps you will be good at draw or Omaha.  So, practice and play almost all poker variants and identify the one that interests you the most and where you will make most money and play from there.  Play the variant where you have the most skill to build your bank balance.

Playing the poker variants can bite you at any point.  When you are first learning the game you will be advised to playing only tight games and after you have gained some experience you will be given the instruction to start with outplaying aggressive or passive; however, if you are going to play against the opponents without knowing their personal strength and weakness without understanding their expertise on the variant that you are competing on you are likely to have just 50:50 chances between winning and losing or in some cases it can be more loss and less victory.

When you are just starting with experimenting on online poker variants it is quite necessary that you have a basic and tight starting hand and you better fall back from playing whenever your hand does not hold any promise.  In cases where you are not sure of your decisions tightening up will cost you some earning power, but it will not help you winning until you learn the situational twists of the game.

While playing any poker variants there is a natural tendency to be playing loose in the beginning because they feel abstract about understanding it and they play it the way they want, thinking lot of plays will teach them things better, this is very true, but when you do it, make sure you are playing it such that it is not devastating to your bankroll.  When you are just new and know less of the game you might loose some substantial stakes to weak bluffers who do it without knowing what they are up to.  So, better try them all in free rolls.
