There are many different types of poker, but a simple classification of poker will be to classify them as community board games and draw games, if a definition should be made with respect to the board. If a definition based on pot split be made it can he high split poker, low split poker and high-low split poker. If a definition should be made for types of poker based no betting limits it can be limit games, no limit games and pot limit games. Poker with wild cards and poker without wild cards is another classification that can be applied.
The popular of all types of poker is the community board games, where the street cards are common to all players in the table. In draw poker games the street cards are unique to all players; however, if there are too many players and the cards are less then some of the street cards are kept common. In community board games all the cards are kept face up, but in draw poker games some cards are dealt face up to the player and some cards are dealt face down. In high split types of poker, the pot is taken away by the player with the high rank card. In low split types of poker, the pot is taken by the player with the worse possible hand. In high-low types of poker, the pot is shared between the player with the high hand and the player with the low hand. When there is no qualifying low hand then the high hand carries the whole pot. If there are more than two qualifying low hand the low half share is quartered between the players. If during the pot split there is some extra share that cannot be shared equally, the extra chips goes to the dealer as a tip. In limit betting games players are allotted with a high and low limit of betting and raising and re-raising which is usually in the multiples of big blind. In the no-limit betting games, the players are not allotted any limits for betting. In pot limit games, at any point in time the bet or raise that should be made should be above the existing pot limit plus the big blind. In wild cards types of poker games any card that is being declared as a wild card can be allotted with a said value as declared by the dealer. The player can allot any value they feel is required to make their hand. All games do not allow wild cards; it is up to the decision of the house to allow wild card usage. |
