There are several poker variations of card games. The variations are induced in the game by several methods like changes in the betting structure, changes in the number of cards that will be dealt, changes relating to accepting wild cards and not accepting wild cards, changes by allowing draw, not allowing draw, comparing community cards etcetera.  The matrices of changes are variably applied in different combinations producing ample number of poker variations each under a different name.

The major of poker variations are:-
• Hold’em poker variations
• Stud poker variations
• Draw poker variations

Most of the Hold’em poker variations are community card games, where the poker hand is formed with reference to the pocket cards against the board card.  However, there are still broader sub-variations in Texas Hold’em and Omaha Hold’em:-
• In Texas there are 2 pocket cards
• In Omaha there are 4 pocket cards
• The basic and difficult difference with Omaha and Texas is that in Omaha it is compulsory that we use 2 cards from the pocket and 3 cards from the board.
• Though it appears that it is easy to play Omaha with experience from Texas hold’em, it is not so, making bets and reading the 2 plus 3 factor for poker in Omaha is very challenging.
• Also there are several variations of hold’em games relating to pot splitting, like Limit game, no limit games, pot limit games, and high-low split games.
• In each variant of Holdem, limits games are those with restrictions in bidding amount whereas in the no limit games do not have limits in betting; pot limit games are where the bet at a point should always be equal to the existing pot limit.
• In poker variation of pot splitting the pot is taken by the low hand, in high games it is taken by the high hand and in high-low the pot is shared between the tow.

Poker variations are mainly induced by mixing high split, low split, high-low, limit, no limit, pot limit etcetera in stud and draw games too.

Stud poker variations lies in that these are not community board games and the hand is achieved by drawing or replacing the existing cards.

There are several poker variations in stud and draw too. Understand the variations in rules of each poker variation before you play; however, the basics are going to be the same!
